Davines Sustainable Beauty Day 2013

Davines North America is pleased to announce a charitable initiative for salons across the US and Canada to celebrate our 3rd Sustainable Beauty Day, which will take place on Monday, October 7, 2013. On that day, consumers can visit participating salons and receive a cut and styling service for a donation. All proceeds from this day will go directly to The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation.
The 2012 edition raised $62,000 thanks to the efforts of 80 salons in the US and Canada. The amount was enough to plant 5,800 fruit trees in elementary school yards and communities in Brazil.
In 2013, we are once again partnering with The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (www.ftpf.org). As with many environmental charities, planting trees is central to their cause. But by planting fruit trees only in communities worldwide, they take an environmental project and raise it to the level of social sustainability. This “socio-environmental” duality is a beautiful fit for Davines.
OUR 2013 GOAL
With the collaboration of Davines salons, our goal is to raise $75,000 this year to fund a fruit tree planting project in the US Southwest. Davines will be the key sponsor for a project that will bring fruit trees, agricultural education and a direct, local source of nourishment to American Indian communities in New Mexico and Arizona. FTPF’s Brazil-based support teams (NGOs and civil groups) will ensure an organized effort and will help to make sure that the literal “fruits of our efforts” will be cultivated for years to benefit the community.

The stylists at Osgood-O’Neil Salon, along with many other salons across North America, will be donating their time on Monday October 7th to raise proceeds for the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation.

Thanks D!

OSGOOD O'NEIL
The Osgood O'Neil beauty empire,
established in 1998, simply
never disappoints. Each of its
three locations sports a modern
yet earthy feel and a consistently
talented team of stylists and colorists,
to whom clients are fiercely
loyal. Luxury is in the details,
like the concierge greeting, fresh
flowers (which are brought in
daily), and massage chairs at the
shampoo stations (a major bonus
when you have thick hair that
requires extra time to nurture).
We're also happy to hand over
our faces to the capable hands of
Osgood O'Neil makeup artists,
who know exactly how to create
the right look for the occasion

Town & Country Wedding Spring/Summer

TEXAS
Kimberly Crawford at Osgood-O’Neil Salon, Dallas (Hair)
When it comes to planning wedding day hair styles, Crawford stresses that communication is key. “A woman knows her hair better than any body else,” she says, “so if a bride says her hair doesn’t hold a curl, I’m not going to put a lot of curl in it.” Although Crawford says the pre vailing trend in Dallas at the moment is partially pinned-up loose waves, she is also a master of more traditional Southern styles. “I can make hair big,” she says.
Trick of the trade: Crawford swears by Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray for volume and hold; she applies it to the roots and then pins curls in place

Davines and Osgood-O'Neil Salon Presents the 2nd Annual Sustainable Beauty Day

The second annual Sustainable Beauty Day—a proud partnership between Davines and The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. Building on the success of last year’s first-ever Sustainable Beauty Day, Davines is proud to continue its charitable initiative this year on Monday, October 15th. Last year’s Sustainable Beauty Day raised over $25,000 due to the participation of 54 salons in the US and Canada, and helped plant 6,000 fruit trees in Mozambique’s impoverished communities and at an orphanage in South Africa. Sustainable Beauty Day 2012 aims to raise $50,000 to fund a fruit tree planting project in Brazil.
As the only sponsor responsible for planting more than 6,000 native fruit trees throughout Brazil, Davines and select salons across the US and Canada will do their part on Monday, October  15th, by opening their doors to offer clients cut and styling services free of charge. Each client will be encouraged to make a $15 minimum donation for the service, and 100% of the proceeds will go toward The Fruit Tree Planning Foundation. The Foundation’s partnering NGO’s and civil groups in Brazil will lead an organized effort to plant and harvest the trees, ensuring that the “fruits of our efforts” will serve as a direct food source for in-need communities.

Check out the origins of Rauhua video on their website to see how for centuries, women from the Quechua-Shuar tribes have traveled deep into the Amazon rainforest to prepare a highly potent, restorative oil they call Rahua (ra-wa) – believing it to be the secret to their thick, flowing, lustrous hair.
